When I moved to Michigan, I had a vague understanding that winters would be much colder and snow-filled than what I was used to in Virginia. What I wasn’t expecting, however, was how DRY the northern winter air would be. After growing up in a climate where humidity was second nature and a dehumidifier was our basement’s best friend, I now understand the importance of facial moisturizer and why humidifiers exist.

HYDRATE Mango Lip Balm
Rule number one for surviving Michigan winters: getcha some good lip balm. Rustic MAKA’s HYDRATE Mango Lip Balm adds the perfect layer of protection between you and frigid winter wind, and it’s oh-so-yummy, too. Starting as a solid, this stuff glides on smoothly and leaves a delicious-smelling, Vaseline-like coating (but without the petrolatum!). Derived from natural, phthalate-free fragrances, the scent is noticeably tropical, but not overpowering.
MOISTURIZE Mango + Orange Calendula Infused Body Cream
Okay, this stuff is just awesome. Rustic MAKA’s MOISTURIZE Mango + Orange Calendula Infused Body Cream is a super-indulgent body butter that really has the consistency of fresh butter. When I opened the jar, I expected this to be one of those jiggly creams that—let’s face it—would work better in a squeeze tube. Alas, this cream is more of a soft solid that melts in your hand (truly butter-like), making application much more controlled. And because it’s insanely-moisturizing (made for extra-dry skin), a little goes a long way. Given the size of the container, I expect this to last me quite a while . . . and thank goodness, because it’s all I can do to keep from burying my nose in this sweet-smelling jar all day long.
Takes Two To Mango Pachy Deodorant
Can’t forget the underarms! Rustic MAKA’s widely-touted Pachy deodorants are where it all began, and for good reason. The deodorants in this all-natural line are free of aluminum, parabens, and synthetic fragrances, and they actually work. As someone who’s tried several natural deodorants, I can honestly say that Pachy is one of my favorites (and they didn’t pay me to say that—I regularly buy this stuff with my own money). “Sweet Lemonade” is my reigning favorite, but “Takes Two To Mango” has a mild, sweetly-tropical scent that conveys a happy, summertime feeling during this time of year. This one’s definitely a new contender.
RELIEVE Skin Rescue Salve
Cold, wind, and constant hand-washing when you’re trying to avoid those winter germs—it takes such a toll on your poor skin. If you’re prone to experiencing dry, cracked knuckles or irritated elbows, this salve’s for you. My hands go through at least one desperate plea for TLC every year, and this scent-free (save for a slight earthy scent from the natural ingredients) formula appears to be the perfect medicine for soothing skin repair.
